Every year international color authority Pantone – or more specifically the executive director of its Color Institute Letitia Eiseman and her team – chooses one colour to be the International Colour of the Year. From there everyone from top fashion and interior designers to paint manufacturers takes note and tries to work the shade into their New Year’s work.
This year – for 2018 – that colour is Ultra Violet, a bold bright purple shade that, according to the official Pantone press release. “Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now.”
Like most of the other colours chosen over the years by Pantone a shade as bold as this one does present some challenges if you want to use it as a part of your home decor, especially if you are staging your home for sale. Here though are a few ideas to inspire you. (By the way if you need to find the exact shade at you local paint store its official name is Pantone 18-3838.)
Ultra Violet for the Walls
Like many bold, bright colours this one can actually have stunning style impact when used to paint an accent wall or liven up a front door. The purple hue adds a sense of richness and class both inside and out, but really only if used in smallish doses.
Ultra Violet Living Room Chair
You could consider a classy and stylish purple one-seater chair like this one for your living room, to incorporate the latest colour trend from Pantone. It’s simple, understated and contrasts well with neutral interiors. It’s also a great example of just how one single bold colour statement can make a real difference visually without overpowering the whole space.
Ultra Violet Flooring
While a wall to wall purple carpeting may be just a little too much for the average home you can make use of Pantone’s bold violet on the floors in smaller doses to great effect. The Ultra Violet rug is a nice accent and the use of the shade in a stair runner carpet like the one pictured is a stunning way to liven up an otherwise very neutral decor palette.
Ultra Violet Accessories
If you don’t want to go all out with the Pantone Colour of the Year 2018, then perhaps opt for some Ultra Violet accessories instead. Add some deep purple throws and cushions to your interiors for an attractive on-trend look.
