Tucked away in Upper Waterloo, you’ll find a neighbourhood that is almost a perfect balance between its sister communities and a great place for those looking for a quieter life without sacrificing access to the excitement of the city; Beechwood West.
While the neighbouring Upper Beechwood is decidedly upscale and a little more expensive than other locales, and Beechwood itself is lively and busy, people are often drawn to Beechwood West as it offers a rather nice blend of the two.
The homes in Beechwood West are on the whole larger homes, with expansive yards and great views, although there are a number of newer, more compact bungalows springing up as well. The local vibe is one of a quiet, but active community and it’s a great choice for both young families and older couples.
The residents of Beechwood West are an active bunch too, thanks to the great recreational amenities that are all around them. There are two community pools, tennis courts, a baseball diamond, a soccer field and easy access to the numerous walking and biking trails that run through the area, trails that double as great sledding spots when the snow falls!
Schoolchildren living in Beechwood West attend either the Mary Johnston Public School, or the Holy Rosary Catholic School, while middle school students attend Centennial Middle School. Once pupils are ready to make the transition to high school they can attend either the Resurrection Catholic Secondary School or the Sir John A McDonald Secondary School. All of the schools have great educational ratings, with Mary Johnston being especially well known for its innovative French Immersion Programme.
For those who don’t want to go too far to do some basic shopping, The Beechwood Plaza is a convenient choice boasting a number of stores and casual dining restaurants. A few minutes further away you’ll find both The Boardwalk and the Conestoga Mall for all of the shopping opportunities your heart could desire!
